bioBorn in French Guyana, he is raised in Martinique. His first band is a family affair. « Les Agils » (The Agiles ) still in junior high school, play « standards » and their favourite tunes are Rico Jazz Afro Caribbean band’s ones. In high school he plays the bass and hosts, mainly with « Puissance 8 », many outstanding parties. He then decides to leave Martinique to follow scientific studies. His first composition « Pas ça » opens a new spectrum of possibilities and he quickly realizes how much he enjoys composing. In the 80s, he plays, for a little while, the bass in « Cristal » a band in Martinique, along with Franck Donatien (Taxi Créole), Tony Chasseur, Pipo Gertrude (Malavoi), Philippe Joseph (Kassav’)…and then creates in Paris, a new band: « Silence » with Françoise Marie-Claire Mosole, Patrick Combette, Fungence Koné, William Camara and Patrick Rosillette. He records « Pa ça » and « Keep cool » on his first 45 vinyl record, and also records them on his first album « Plein Sud » (Déclic Blue Silver) four years later. He receives the award of Best Composer by Sacem Martinique for « Lè siel si ba ». In 1996, Chris Combette releases his second album « Salambô » (Déclic Blue Silver) and then settles down in French Guyana where he meets the musicians who will stay by his side for the next 15 years : George Mac, Eric Bonheur, Emile Romain, Arsène Popo. Together they start performing in many festivals worldwide : Paris, La Rochelle, Rennes, Angoulème, Fort-de-France, Sainte Lucie, Houston, Miami, San-Francisco, New York, Montréal, Brisbane, Nouvelle Calédonie. At the end of the 90s, « Lonbraj’ an pyé mango », a duo composed by Joël Jacoulet and interpreted with Jocelyn Béroard, becomes a real hit in the F.W.I. « La danse de Flore » released in 2003, and « Les enfants de Gorée » in 2010, enhance his repertoire, and in 2012 he receives two awards for best album and his music career, by two “Lindors” awards from French Guyana. Now settled in Paris, Chris keeps on promoting his work and follows his path…
